Joanna Sokolowska is a painter and sculptor currently living in the U.S. Her paintings and sculptures revolve around the themes of nature and the human, interior emotions, life and psyche. She combines elements of realism with an expressive, emotional quest for the power of expression. Her education includes both the arts and linguistics: She holds two Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees – from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture in Warsaw (2012) and from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, USA (2015) where she completed her Fulbright Graduate Award (2013-15), as well as an MA degree in English Philology from the University of Warsaw, Institute of Applied Linguistics (2009). She participated in the Erasmus exchange program to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (2009), as well as in art residencies and seminars in the U.S. (Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont), France (Artinder Residency in St Nicolas du Pelem) and Thailand (Andaman Art Seminar in Krabi). International context is very important in her creative path. As a Fulbright alumna, Sokołowska travels and promotes Art as a universal language that connects different cultural contexts she visits. In Poland, she worked as a Sculpture and Painting Instructor at Warsaw Arts Academy, as well as Officyna Art and Design Gallery. While in Boston, she worked as a teaching assistant for Sculpture and Ceramics courses at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has exhibited her works in solo and group exhibitions in Poland, Italy, France, Thailand and the USA, receiving awards and honorable mentions for her paintings and sculptures (the most recent honorable mention received in Viridian Artists Exhibition in New York, August 2019). Her works are being sold in several galleries in Warsaw (Napiorkowska Gallery, Officyna Gallery, Stalowa Gallery), as well as in international online galleries (Saatchi, Artfinder, Singulart, TouchofArt, Artmajeur). She attended international residencies and seminars in the USA (Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont), France (Artinder Residency in St Nicolas du Pelem) and Thailand (Andaman Art Seminar in Krabi).
