Prof. Jacek Fisiak

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Ordinarius Jacek Fisiak – a renown scholar, English linguist, educator and 1963-64 Fulbright scholar at the University of California in Los Angeles. Professor Fisiak for years had been affiliated with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, and between 1985 and 1988 served as the Rector of the institution. Between 1988 and 1989 he was the Minister of National Education in Poland. He authored 40 books and 8 dictionaries and supervised 41 Ph.D. dissertations. Professor Fisiak was a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of Academia Europaea and a professor of many American and European universities. Throughout his scholarly career, he was recognized with many honors in Poland as well as abroad.
