We are pleased to announce that on February 9, 2018, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland Jarosław Gowin appointed Prof. Marek Konarzewski, expert for research and technology cooperation at the Diplomatic Academy of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the Board of Directors of the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission.
Dr. Marek Konarzewski is a native of North-East Poland, where he received his undergraduate and graduate education in biology at the University of Białystok (formerly University of Warsaw, Branch in Białystok). He pursued PhD and DsC degree at the Institute of Ecology, Polish Academy of Sciences and then returned to the University of Bialystok, after postdoctoral work at the University of California, Los Angeles in Dr. Jared Diamond’s laboratory. He is now Professor of Biology at the Institute of Biology, University of Bialystok and at the Faculty of Liberal Arts of University of Warsaw.
Dr. Konarzewski is a recipient of Prime Minister of Republic of Poland Award and Distinguished Achievement Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences for ecological and evolutionary studies. He is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Dr. Konarzewski’s main research interests are in the field of physiological ecology and the emerging field of evolutionary physiology.
In years 2008-13 Dr. Konarzewski served as a Minister-Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington DC. In January 2017 he assumed a newly created position of Science and Technology Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Prof. Konarzewski was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission following the nomination of his predecessor prof. Jacek Czaputowicz for the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs that took place in January. We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Minister Czaputowicz for almost a two years cooperation and wish him a success in his new assignment.
